BIOGRAPHY

Dimitris Georgiev is a Bulgarian director and screenwriter whose work is shaped by the textures of his upbringing and the creative discipline he developed from an early age. A graduate of the National Academy of Theatre and Film Arts with honors, he entered the industry fast and uncompromisingly. Still in his first year at the Academy, he joined the New European Wave Entertainment Company and co-produced his initial student assignment with B2Y Productions. The resulting short film The Last 2 Days traveled widely and earned both critical and audience recognition across numerous international and Academy Qualifying festivals.

During his time at the Academy he worked as a first and second assistant director on a wide range of Bulgarian and international productions, sharpening a directing voice distinguished by precision, emotional clarity and a strong visual instinct. In 2019 he became the youngest director to work with Nu Boyana Film Studios and B2Y Productions, a milestone that marked the beginning of his professional career. Today he works as a freelance film director with an expanding portfolio of commercials and music videos.

His debut short film So Close Away was selected for the Berlin International Film Festival in 2020. In 2021 he was invited to the Directors Summit at Talents Sarajevo. His feature debut Dad premiered at the Sofia Film Festival 2025 as part of the New Bulgarian Cinema selection. In 2025 his short film What Stays After also premiered at the Sofia Film Festival and later became the first short film on the HBO Max platform to debut in the top three most watched titles. In 2025 he joined the European Film Academy and served as a jury member for the Best Short Film category at the MustArt Short Film and Music Fest.

Dimitris is currently developing new narrative projects while continuing to refine a body of work that seeks to explore human intimacy, private mythologies and the restless spaces between memory and identity.
